Finding Your Place: a Recap with the Arran-Elderslie Youth Council

Written by Fianna McKnight

On October 16th, 2021, Finding Your Place: Empowering Women in Grey Bruce brought together organizations from all over the area dedicated to showcasing resources that our audience (and others) can access.

With presentations from Lynda at 100 Women Who Care, local entrepreneur Jen Christie, Linneah Shanti from the Lily Pod, Alicia Sylvest from It’s Personal. Period, Laura Wood from ELECTher, and Gillian King from Herstory, the event was a huge hit! 84% of attendees said they were satisfied with the program and came away feeling more empowered as a woman in Grey-Bruce.

If you didn’t get a chance to attend the event, don’t fret! There will be a highlights video on our YouTube channel coming soon, and we have some fantastic news: Finding Your Place is going to be a workshop series! Finding Your Place: Empowering Women in Grey-Bruce was just the first of what will hopefully be many workshops, all with the goal of connecting rural residents of the area to resources that can otherwise be difficult to find. Stay tuned on our social media so you don’t miss our announcement of the next one!

A huge thank you goes out to our sponsors, Community Foundation Grey-Bruce and Rising Youth-- this event would not have been possible without you.

If you haven’t heard about Explore AE, we’re running a scavenger-hunt-style contest this fall-- and the deadline just got extended! This activity consists of 20 “stops” scattered about the municipality. Participants who find and post at least 12 of the 20 locations (complete with our hashtag, #exploreae2021) will be entered into a draw for some amazing prizes to be announced soon on our socials! In the AEYC Instagram bio is a link that leads to a digital brochure with descriptions, photos and the location of each stop in our new event, Explore AE, both for your convenience and so you can learn more about this wonderful community.

Because we know there aren’t many activities for your family during the winter, we’ve decided to extend Explore AE all the way to the new year! You now have until January 1st to find and submit stops for a chance to win. Thank you to the Chesley Kinsmen for your generous contribution.
